Album containing 30 commercially-produced cartes de visite portraits of French artists, musicians, writers, philosophers, and politicians. Subjects include painter Gustave Courbet, composer Jacques Offenbach, socialist figure Louise Michel, and writers Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870), and Alexandre Dumas (1825-1895), among many others. The photographs all appear to have been taken ca. 1870-1881, and photographers include Ferdinand Mulnier, J.M. Lopez, and Felix Nadar, all of Paris, among many others. All of the photographs are identified.
